The Willoughbys, Lois Lowry

A sort of parody of old kids' books, this is a lot of fun to read.

The four Willoughby children, having horrible parents, decide to send the parents on a trip so that they (the children) will become orphans. Meanwhile, the parents are trying to sell the house out from under their children.

Black Juice, Margo Lanagan

A collection of lovely, disturbing stories. It is hard to figure out anything to say about this book other than it is REALLY good.

The Drowned World, J.G. Ballard

An increase in the sun's heat has made most of the world uninhabitable. The protagonists are exploring London, most of which is under water, for scientific purposes, when they are called back. But a couple of the scientists don't want to go..

The premise doesn't really hold up to, like, actual THOUGHT, but this is still a pretty interesting novel.

White House Autumn, Ellen Emerson White

Meg's mom (the president) gets shot and the whole family has to deal with it. They do not do such a good job, even though she survives.

This is very good and a fast read.
