Nim's Island, Wendy Orr

Nim and her dad live on the most beautiful island in the world. They spend their time learning and studying and growing food. But when Nim's dad goes away for three days to study plankton and gets into trouble, Nim finds that she's having trouble as well.

This was a fun read, if a bit over the top. The illustrations were nifty too.
