The Martian Child, David Gerrold
A writer adopts a troubled child who thinks he's a Martian and discovers it's just as much of a pain in the ass as everyone told him it would be.
This is based on the short story with the same name. I think the novel is better than the story in that it is less glib about things.
My main problem with this book is that it's too short. I brought it with me to read while I was waiting for surgery and the book ended before the surgery started. This was annoying.
