I've been trying to read this book for almost two weeks now, and I give up.

See, Banner is supposed to be a true crime book about two mormons who went fundamentalist and killed the wife and daughter of one of their brothers. But apparently the author couldn't find enough story in that, so he keeps interrupting himself with disjointed mormon history and mormon fundamentalist history.

It got really annoying.

Ella is given the "gift" of obedience at birth--she has to do what people order her to. This causes some trouble, but is no real big deal until after her mother dies.

Decent enough book, but I don't understand why no-one thought to say, "Ella, stop being cursed."

Author tells us how he escaped child abuse, then tells us of the abuse itself.

Very short book with big type. I don't know, I felt it was missing something.
