Philip Marlowe (who has no use for anyone who isn't white, christian, and straight) takes a simple job from a frail old man. The job gets incredibly complicated.

Being Chandler's first novel, this one is the weakest.. also the most popular, probably because of the movie.

He's not allowed to use the fuck word.

Roscoe's old childhood friend Peter shows up one day with news: one, Peter's a vampire. Two, Peter's out to kill all of Roscoe's most hated enemies. Peter is shocked when Roscoe isn't thrilled by these revelations.

Decent enough thriller, but gets pretty stupid by the time the ending rolls around.
