The Graveyard Book, Neil Gaiman
Dec. 22nd, 2008 05:46 amAs his family is being slaughtered, a toddler climbs out of his crib, slides down the stairs and walks out of the house and up the hill to a cemetary. The denizens thereof (and the friendly local vampire) take in the baby and send the killer in the wrong direction.
So the kid is adopted by a ghost couple and given the name Nobody Owens. He has many adventures in the graveyard. It's just when he wants to leave that the trouble starts again.
This was okay, but I hate the title. Also, I realize there was a stylistic and plot-driven reason to constantly refer to the killer as "the man Jack," but that didn't make it any less annoying.
