This one is not nearly as exciting as the last one. Meena meets her vampire ex again when one of her OTHER exes assaults her. Turns out the violent ex had been turned into a vampire and this means more vampires are after Meena. Meanwhile, the first vampire, Lucien, is trying to force all the goodness out of himself while Meena is convinced his mom was an angel, so Lucien should be capable of rising about his vampire nature..

Blah blah blah. But funny, lots of action.

Two Serpents Rise, Max Gladstone

Caleb works for the Red King--a dead magician who's probably the most powerful being in the city. Since the war with the gods most of them are dead, alseep, or imprisoned. Because of this, for some reason, water no longer has a cycle?

Anyway, a reservoir is infected by water demons and Caleb is sent to investigate. At the resevoir he meets a woman and risks his life to keep her out of the investigation.

Turns out the woman works for someone the Red King is making a deal with..

This was really complicated and hard to put down.

Smoke and Ashes, Tanya Huff

So Tony hasn't quite gotten the hang of being a wizard. That's too bad because he is approached by an immortal stunt woman with a connection to a demon (Tony can see the guy, like superimposed over the woman? Demons apparently got big dicks.) The stunt woman, Leah, tells Tony that there's gonna be some sort of cosmic something and she wants him to help her close this demon gate that's going to open.

Except the gate starts spitting out demons ahead of schedule, and they can actually hurt Leah, which they could never do before. So shit is complicated.

But the first thing I noticed in the book was in the first sentence, which says "Although both moon and stars were hidden b-hind cloud..."

You Can Date Boys When You're Forty, Dave Barry

The last few Dave Barry books have not been very funny, so it is my pleasure to announce that this one is fairly funny. Barry does rely a tad too much on gender stereotypes for his humor, though. It's getting old.
