Children of the Mind, Orson Scott Card
Sep. 21st, 2008 06:53 amWithout giving away major plot points from other books, about all I can tell you about this one is that everyone is working really hard to save the planet Lusitania from being blown to hell. And a major character dies, but not really.
The dialogue in this one is worse than wooden. It was compulsive reading, but I don't think I'll be picking this novel up again.

Tranquility is a town where retired heroes (super) and villains (ditto) have decided to live in harmony. There's a crazy midget who likes to fly her plane down Main Street, and a little old speedster who huffs and puffs a lot. And then there's a murder. And another one.
I don't know what it is, but this comic just didn't grab me.

Mr. Thundermug, Cornelius Medvei
Sep. 21st, 2008 09:01 pmMr. Thundermug is a baboon who moves into an un-named (but most likely British) city with his family. Mr. Thundermug is the only one in his family who can talk. The baboons have an odd affect on everyone around them.. and then there is an entirely ambiguous ending.
You get the feeling the author just couldn't figure out what happened next, so he figured, "Fuck it, that's the end of the book."
