Toby's social circle consists mostly of his mother, his great-aunt, and his great-aunt's girlfriend. It's been this way for as long as he can remember. Toby and his mother are very close, and nothing has ever come between them.
Then his mom meets a man but doesn't tell Toby about the guy. Toby only knows because of the cigarette smoke in her hair. When he actually meets the man, Toby's jealousy mutates into something much more complicated.
This is a strange novel--compelling reading, but disturbing.
