bookfrogThe Pinhoes and several other families keep their magic a secret from Chrestomanci and the others who live at the castle, but this becomes more difficult when the Pinhoe matriarch goes slightly mad and Cat from the castle gets a horse.
The only Pinhoe girl child knows the old woman is sending curses to another nearby family, but no-one in her family will listen.
Oh, and Cat hatches a griffin.
I liked the story a lot, but there were still some problems with it. How did these families keep their powers secret from the Chrestomanci and the others before him for so long, right under their noses? Why was Cat the first person to notice all the weird spells lying around?
It just doesn't seem very likely.
