[Reread]
Alternately sad and horrifying story of dogs who were genetically engineered and surgically altered to be intelligent and more human-like. They were attached to prosthetic hands and had voice boxes surgically implanted in their throats.
But once they overthrow the people who created them, their lives lose purpose. The monster dogs move to New York City, where they find celebrity--and, ultimately, tragedy.
