After Yeine Darr's mother dies, Yeine is summoned to the city of Sky. This is where her grandfather lives--he is in charge of the city, which runs the world. The people of Sky have so much power even the gods obey them--and Yeine is obviously a pawn in a larger game.
But whose pawn? The gods have a secret about Yeine and information about her mother that will change everything she thinks she knows.
This is a hell of a novel. It's fascinating and terrifying and just really good.
Also it is cool to read fantasy novels with black protagonists instead of the default honkies.
