This is the first book in a series about Kay Scarpetta, medical examiner. She's in charge of the coroner's office.
A serial killer has been targeting women, and the kills are already getting closer together. Nothing connects the victims, as far as anyone can tell. Also, evidence has been leaked and Kay's boss thinks the leak is in Kay's office.
This was very good, and hard to read in spots. However, I noticed a certain pattern between this and the only other Cornwell novel I read, and I'm hoping they don't all follow the same script. The writing is good, I'd hate to quit reading this series because all the books are the same.
